The Academy Awards are over, if you didn't notice. The Academy was thanked, Oscars distributed, and the fashion critiqued. In case you avoided all of that, but you’re still curious about the results, here are the winners of the 10 “big ones.” Now we can all relax. That is, of course, until tax day and the ensuing debt settlement relief.
1. Best Picture
“The Hurt Locker” had controversy before it won the Oscar for Best Picture. It was kind of surprising, as many people were convinced “Avatar” would win.
2. Best Director
Because “The Hurt Locker” took Best Picture, it follows that director Kathryn Bigelow would take the Academy Award for Best Director. I guess James Cameron will just have to be satisfied with his hundreds of millions of dollars and the three Oscars he already has.
3. Best Actress in a Leading Role
Sandra Bullock was practically the star of the night for her acceptance speech, winning for her performance in “The Blind Side.” She mentioned kissing Meryl Streep in her excellent, funny speech. The feedback about her was pretty good.
4. Best Actor
Jeff Bridges had my vote for Best Actor on principle alone, and I was delighted to see that he won it for his performance in “Crazy Heart.”
5. Actress in a Supporting Role
The win for Mo'Nique somehow was not a shocker. She took home the Academy Award for her performance in “Precious.”
6. Actor in a Supporting Role
Christoph Waltz had a stellar turn as Hans Landa, and thoroughly deserved the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his role in “Inglourious Basterds.” The film had eight nominations for Quentin Tarantino's film, but the Best Supporting Actor was the sole win for “Inglourious Basterds.”
7. Writing in an Adapted Screenplay
Besides Mo’Nique’s supporting actress win, “Precious: Based on the Novel ‘Push’ by Sapphire” also nabbed an Oscar for Best Writing in an Adapted Screenplay.
8. Best Writing in an Original Screenplay
“The Hurt Locker” won a total of five Oscars, including Best Original Screenplay. The other awards for “The Hurt Locker” were for editing and sound.
9. Best Animated Film
The Academy declared Pixar’s film “Up” for Best Animated Film for 2009. With its $ 293 million box office earnings, “Up” producers won't ever need debt settlement relief.
10. Music: Best Original Score
“Up” also took home the gold for its soundtrack, an original score by Michael Giacchino. That concludes the 10 big Oscar winners. you can look at Oscar.com for more.
